More than 70% of sodium comes from processed foods and restaurant meals. Keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends adults eat no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day. The study surveyed 993 adults and found that their guesses were lower than the actual sodium content by more than 1,000 mg. One study found that about 90% of adults underestimated how much sodium was in their fast food meals. Sodium can elevate blood pressure and put stress on your heart and cardiovascular system. But diets high in sodium can lead to water retention, which is why you may feel puffy, bloated, or swollen after eating fast food.Ī diet high in sodium is also dangerous for people with blood pressure conditions. The combination of fat, sugar, and lots of sodium (salt) can make fast food tastier to some people. Eating foods that contain it can increase your LDL (bad cholesterol), lower your HDL (good cholesterol), and increase your risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. No amount of trans fat is good or healthy. That equals 140 calories, 39 grams of sugar, and no other nutrients.Īnother common fast food ingredient, trans fat, is manufactured fat created during food processing. A 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola contains 9.75 teaspoons of sugar. Many fast food drinks alone contain more than the daily recommended amount of sugar. The American Heart Association, which referred to people as either men or women, suggests only eating about 100 calories or 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day for women or 150 calories or 9 teaspoons for men. That means extra calories without added nutrition. This increases your risk of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain. Over time, these insulin spikes may cause your body’s normal insulin response to falter. As long as you’re healthy, your organs can usually handle these sugar spikes.īut frequently eating high amounts of carbs can lead to repeated spikes in your blood sugar. This blood sugar process is highly regulated by your body. As your body uses or stores the sugar, your blood sugar returns to normal. Insulin transports sugar throughout your body to cells that need it for energy. Your pancreas responds to the surge in glucose by releasing insulin. When your digestive system breaks down these foods, the carbs are released as glucose (sugar) into your bloodstream. Most fast food, including drinks and sides, are loaded with carbohydrates with little to no fiber. Effect on the digestive and cardiovascular systems

Killer Queen is a short-range humanoid Stand of average to above-average speed and melee attacking power. Kira is able to speak through Killer Queen, as he does to Rohan while using Bites the Dust. Killer Queen's semi-autonomous secondary bomb, Sheer Heart Attack, speaks phrases to its targets, including "Look this way". Exceptions to its otherwise stoic demeanor include it scowling at Jotaro as Kira realizes he had survived Sheer Heart Attack's explosion, and freezing in terror, mouth agape, as it is torn apart by the hands of Ghost Girl's Alley. ![]() Killer Queen is unusual among humanoid Stands with complete faces in that its facial expression almost never reflects that of its user, and is instead nearly permanently locked in a wide-eyed, neutral position. In the colored manga, Sheer Heart Attack is green, and in the anime, it is portrayed as blue. It also leaves an indentation on Kira's hand that doesn't appear to be visible to non-Stand users. While it is not visible to non-Stand users, if Sheer Heart Attack attaches to someone, it will leave visible tread marks on their clothing. Embedded at its front is a cat-skull similar to those on Killer Queen's body, with the addition of a downward dagger on the forehead, a movable jaw, and a short spike as a nose. Sheer Heart Attack takes the form of a plated sphere with a superficial, removable knob on its top and tank treads on either side. Later, the space behind its stomach is revealed to be hollow and suitable for storing an object. In the anime, after receiving the third bomb, Killer Queen's eyes adopt a deep glow. Its shoulders, the back of its hands, belt buckle, a plate hanging in front of its crotch, both sides of its ankles and the top of its feet all bear the emblem of a skull with ears resembling its own, in varying sizes and external decoration. Four short spikes line the top of its back. On its index finger's middle phalanx, there is a small red button similar to those found on stereotypical detonators. Its thumbs are additionally bandaged in white. It wears dark, studded, leather-like forearm-length gloves, mirrored in style by a garter belt-like band at its waist and ankle-height footwear. It has no nose, and its thin-lipped mouth is perpetually closed. ![]() ![]() Its eyes comprise cat-like vertical pupils in front of its generally light-colored sclera. Its crown is flat, while two sharp, triangular shapes resembling cat ears stand on both sides of the top of its head. In both the manga and anime, it is portrayed as light pink, while in the All Star Battle video game, it is portrayed as white. Killer Queen is a visibly muscular humanoid Stand about as tall as Kira himself, light in color overall. This is one of those “fun to make” dishes, by the way. But if your family is close like mine, they won’t be afraid to share. If the squash are large, they might be a little to big for one person. While some folks might prefer to scrape out the individual halves into a large casserole dish, I prefer to serve them straight out of the oven. The results is a soft, flavorful squash that’s dripping with all the good things in life. This is as easy as it comes: you simply halve and hollow out acorn squash, then fill the hollow center with butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and salt…then you bake it. I’m a real squash fanatic, whether it’s pumpkin, butternut, spaghetti, or acorn (or zucchini or summer squash, for that matter) so I’m always looking for great ways to prepare it that’s a little set apart from the fray. Today’s offering is Baked Acorn Squash, something I’ve made off and on for years, and something about which I fantasize during the years I don’t make it. Later this week, I’ll have some special Halloween treats to share, but for now, let’s keep going with the Thanksgiving theme. (For a deeper glaze, broil for a minute or two). So far this fall I’ve added Homemade Pumpkin Puree, Fresh Corn with Wild Rice, Whiskey Glazed Carrots, Creamy Herbed Potatoes, and Pumpkin Cake with Whiskey Whipped Cream to the basic Thanksgiving menu we started last year, and I promise many more holiday-friendly dishes in the coming weeks. Bake uncovered until squash is tender, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. I wanted to begin cooking Thanksgiving food early this year so you’d have plenty of time to read, examine, and even practice dishes beforehand, if you’re into that sort of thing. Want more ways to use acorn squash? This Stuffed Acorn Squash is the perfect dish to try next!Įditor's note: This recipe was update to add a video and more information about the dish in the introduction on August 8th, 2022.And…the holiday dishes continue here on P-Dub Cooks. ![]() A fork should be able to easily pierce the squash and shred it. ![]() Place your squash on a large baking sheet or in a baking dish, cut side up. For sweet, brush it with softened butter and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon all over it. For savory, drizzle it with some olive oil and sprinkle paprika or curry powder over it with some salt and pepper. Leave the skin on and cut into half moon slices or peel the skin off and cut into large cubes!Ĭhoose if you would rather go the sweet or savory route with your acorn squash. At this point you can also cut the squash further if you don't want to serve them in halves. Don't toss the seeds, though! Just like you can with pumpkin, clean them off and roast the seeds for a perfect little snack. Cut the squash in half lengthwise, cutting through where the stem used to be.Īfter you have your squash open, use a spoon to scrape out the seeds. Roasted Acorn Squash Wedges Cut the squash in half, and scoop out the seeds in the middle. For most of these fall recipes ahead, you wont even need to peel the squashits edible and will get tender when cooked The inside of the squash is mild, buttery, and slightly sweet. Use a sharp knife to cut the squash in half and scoop out the seeds. This will make a flat surface for it to stand on instead of dangerously rolling around on your cutting board. Despite the hard outer skin, acorn squash is surprisingly easy to make. To make it easier, cut the stem off and place squash cut side down on your cutting board. The flesh also separates from the skin easily after roasting so if you don't prefer the skin it will be easier to separate after cooking. After roasting, the skin on the squash will be soft and edible so there's no need to worry about peeling it first. It can be dressed up either savory or sweet and served as individual halves for the cutest presentation. ![]() The squash is healthy and full of fiber plus, its size makes it far easier to cut open and work with. Both are great, but acorn squash would like to be noticed as well. When it comes to winter squash we usually focus on butternut squash and pumpkin. ![]() The term "romanesque sword" does not see significant use in English, but it is more current in French ( epée romane), German ( romanisches Schwert), and especially in Slavic languages (such as Czech románský meč), identifying the swords as being contemporary with the corresponding Romanesque period in art history (roughly 1000 to 1300). Oakeshott (1964) notes that this changes in the late medieval period, beginning towards the end of the 13th century, when the "bastard sword" appeared as an early type of what developed into the 15th-century longsword. ![]() Mostly, the common type of sword in any given period would simply be referred to as "sword" (English swerde, French espée, Latin gladius etc.).ĭuring the high medieval period, references to swords as "great sword" ( grete swerd, grant espée) or "small" or "short sword" ( espée courte, parvus ensis) does not necessarily indicate their morphology, but simply their relative size. Period terminology for swords is somewhat fluid. The terms "knight's sword" or "knightly sword" are modern terms to specify the sword of the high medieval period. "Arming sword" in late medieval usage specifically refers to the estoc when worn as a side-arm, but as a modern term it may also refer to any single-handed sword in a late medieval context. The term "arming sword" ( espées d'armes) is first used in the 15th century to refer to the single-handed type of sword after it had ceased to serve as the main weapon and was on its way to being used as a side-sword. After the end of the medieval period, the arming sword developed into several forms of the early modern one-handed straight swords, such as the side-sword, the rapier, the cavalry-focused Reiterschwert and certain types of broadsword. Though the majority of late-medieval arming swords kept their blade properties from previous centuries, there are also surviving specimens from the 15th century that took the form of a late-medieval estoc, specialised for use against more heavily armoured opponents. In the Late Medieval period (14th and 15th centuries), late forms of these swords continued to be used, but often as a sidearm, at that point called "arming swords" and contrasting with the two-handed, heavier longswords. The high medieval sword of the Romanesque period (10th to 13th centuries) developed gradually from the Viking sword of the 9th century. This type is frequently depicted in period artwork, and numerous examples have been preserved archaeologically. In the European High Middle Ages, the typical sword (sometimes academically categorized as the knightly sword, arming sword, or in full, knightly arming sword) was a straight, double-edged weapon with a single-handed, cruciform (i.e., cross-shaped) hilt and a blade length of about 70 to 80 centimetres (28 to 31 in). ![]() Using cheap digital technology and even cheaper talent, the Asylum can turn around such requests in as little as four months (the Sherlock shoot - one of the Asylum's longest - was 14 days). The gonzo Sherlock, which you'll be able to find at major rental chains like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, is the creation of the Asylum, a low-budget studio specializing in shamelessly derivative knockoffs that are not-so-affectionately dubbed "mockbusters." B-movie producers have been cribbing from Hollywood for decades, but none have done so as brazenly or efficiently as the Asylum, which for the past six years has churned out titles like Snakes on a Train, Transmorphers, The Terminators, The Day the Earth Stopped, and, of course, last summer's Transmorphers: Fall of Man. This Sherlock bears little resemblance to the detective's literary adventures, unless Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a book titled Sherlock Holmes vs. The version I'm watching, also tentatively titled Sherlock Holmes, will cost less than $500,000, stars no one you'd recognize, and goes straight to video this month. ![]() on thousands of screens across the country. and Jude Law, and presumably includes not a single robot fight - is being released by Warner Bros. This is supposed to be one of the film's most gripping moments: a plot-twisting showdown that finds a sword-wielding Holmes battling a homicidal steampunk droid. It's a chilly night in northern Wales, and on the set of the upcoming movie Sherlock Holmes, the famed detective is scampering around a candlelit, 400-year-old stone barn, trying to stab a robot. ![]()
I don't believe the world need truly "responsive" eLearning. In the real world, using a scalable player is a better solution, which it can do, but given the fact that Adobe promote the "responsive" design so heavily as one of their key features - I personally wouldn't waste my time on it again. I understand the methodology here, using a CSS style layout to develop content that can run on any display - but I tripled my hours to make this work on a freelance project which causes the client to walk away. Responsive content development is a real pain. In comparison to an alternative such as Articulate Storyline 360 - it is overly complicated. Impossible to train SME's to use for storyboarding etc in a way that has any return on the time that would need to be spent training them (in fairness, they do have the storyboard add on for this function).
